One song, many ways:

  • Can you reverse the tempo of the rhyme? Can you start slow, then speed up for "hot potato hot potato do it all again!"
  • Inner hearing: Can you say the rhyme "in your head" and only demonstrate the actions?
  • How many different ways can you tap a beat with tapping sticks? Can you clap them together lengthways? Roll them forwards and backwards? Drum them against the ground? Ask the children to create new ways to keep a beat with tapping sticks!
  • Inhibitory control: How long can you hold the "gasp" part of the song? This can be challenging for children who are eager to get to the fast section!

Lyrics:

One potato, two potato, three potato four.

Five potato, six potato, seven potato more.

[slowly] eight potato, nine potato, here comes number ten...

[gasp] hot potato hot potato do it all again!
