A classic song where balance and the vestibular system can be challenged anywhere!

Description

A classic song where balance and the vestibular system can be challenged anywhere!

FOCUS AREAS: [vestibular system] [crossing the midline] [coordination] [balance]

Source: Catch a Song, Deanna Hoermann & Doreen Bridges (1985)

One song, many ways:

  • This song can be sung anywhere at anytime. Both outdoors and indoors, wherever a child is testing their balance skills, this is a special song with a simple melody that children eventually begin to sing themselves.
  • Have you got slack lines in the outdoor environment? Wobbly logs or long benches? If indoors, use masking tape to create interesting shapes for children to walk along to, then invite a friend to join them as they go!

Lyrics:

One grey elephant balancing,

Step by step on a piece of string

They thought it was such a wonderful stunt

That they called for another, elephant.

[Repeat as more children join in, replacing "one" with whatever number of children involved]
